Top 10 Destinations of Choice When Travel Reopens
The Coronavirus pandemic unexpectedly affected all of our lives in 2020.
Some people dealt with severe loss while others were able to use this downtime for self growth and to spend time with their families. However, one thing that was greatly affected and sorely missed by many was the opportunity to travel. Many countries put travel bans in effect for outsiders, airlines cut their flights in half, and some people simply did not feel comfortable travelling. With vaccine rollouts steadily happening worldwide, the post-pandemic period is now on the horizon and will see a resumption in travel having travel enthusiasts asking the number one question, “where do I go first?”.
Being under lockdown with curfew measures, there was quite a bit we missed from normal life – being with our friends and family, not wearing masks, and just being outside in general. Therefore, our top ten destinations when travel opens up freely are broken up into four categories: Exploring Nature Destinations, Exploring the Sea Destinations, Entertainment Destinations; and Neighbouring travel destinations.
Nature Destinations:
After being locked in our homes for so long a literal breath of fresh air could do us good. Exploring the wonders of nature after spending such a long period within four walls is a great way we can use travel to reinvigorate ourselves post-pandemic. Three top nature destinations include:
1. Cape Town, South Africa- popular for hiking, beautiful waterfall and mountain views as well as relaxing beaches.
2. Perijá Mountains, Colombia- home to the Northern Colombia Birding Trail, Colombia is an underrated top destination for bird watching, housing over 1,900 Avian species.
3. Amazon Rainforest Lodge, Peru- explore the vastness of the Amazon rainforest by foot, plane, or cruise. See a variety of species from monkeys to jaguars all while having accommodation hosted right in the middle of the jungle.
Sea Destinations:
As vast as the land is to explore, the ocean carries just as many wonders to be explored. Some top locations perfect for adventurous water activities like scuba diving, surfing and boat rides, are:
4. Queensland, Australia– scuba dive one of the Great Wonders of the World; The Great Barrier Reef as well as see the Yongala Shipwreck. You can also learn about conservation efforts put in place to protect the reef amidst the growing effects of Global Warming.
5. The Coral Triangle, the Philippines – the Philippines is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches if you just would like to lounge and enjoy the warm weather on the beach, but is also another prime scuba diving spot.
6. Oahu, Hawaii- in Oahu, Hawaii, you can enjoy scuba diving, surfing, or just the vast Hawaiian culture on the beach.
Entertainment Destinations:
If you aren’t a nature lover and what you miss most is live entertainment, dancing, and socializing with friends; these locations are prime spots for entertainment post-pandemic.
7. Las Vegas, USA- one of the most popular destinations for entertainment, where you can win big in the casinos, catch live music concerts, enjoy high energy pool parties and head to various clubs and restaurants along the strip.
8. Ibiza, Spain- another popular party destination where you will not only be able to enjoy clubs but also party on the popular beaches spread across the Spanish city.
9. Dubai, UAE- Dubai increasingly became a popular travel destination and has been on every travellers bucket list pre-pandemic. Dubai is currently still considered a travel hot spot for tourists with several different forms of entertainment including ATV and camel riding in the dunes, visiting the aquariums, and many amusement parks across the city.
Support our Neighbours:
10. The Caribbean– Like us, many of our neighbouring Caribbean islands are dependent on tourism as one of their main contributors to Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Post-pandemic it would be lovely to explore the culture, beaches and warmth of our neighbouring Caribbean islands, and assist in restoring their tourism industries.
In the meantime, while we are still within the reins of this pandemic, support your local travel industries by visiting our local museums, booking a getaway at one of our coastal villas or a family all-inclusive package at a hotel. Whatever you choose to do, stay safe until we are all out of this pandemic and can freely travel the world again.
